Evening Banquet & Hanne Krogh Concert

Elks Lodge, Napa, California, 15 May 2004

With not much time for the transition from the Tulocay Cemetery dedication, our Slooper Bautastein event moved to the Elks Lodge north of town.  This was an international event and a concert by a Norwegian singing star.  How did this happen when the event organizers, Peg and Keith, were not event organizers?  It happened with much confusion behind the scenes and the valued help by friends who pitched in to pull various parts of the event together.  Miraculously it seemed that it turned out well with a large crowd enjoying the evening. An anonymous but sincere Thank You (Tusen Takk) to our many helpers and supporters!

The cake table displays the treats in an attractive manner. Thanks again to Vallejo SON Lodge members for help getting these cakes here. [photo by Håkon Dagsland]

Guests begin to arrive and mingle.  There is a Viking Auction for many special items going on at the back of the room. Many of the items were brought from Norway by the several visitors (see Fund Raisers). [photo by son Rich]

An unexpected but very appropriate winner of the "Artist's Study" stone carving of the sloop was none other than Napa Historical Society's Floyd Stone (see Fund Raisers). [photo by Håkon Dagsland]

Guests are seated and people meet new friends.  130 Slooper supporters were here to complete the dedication day. [photo by son Patrick]

It is hard to take large group photos at events like this and next to impossible to identify every one.  Perhaps you can find yourself here. [photo by son Patrick]

Or perhaps you're here.  Or someone you know is shown mingling in this one. [photo by son Patrick]

Tables were filling fast and folks were still arriving. [photo by son Patrick]

This photo was taken by one of our Norwegian guests.  We think he was impressed with the size of the portion.  The other entrée was chicken (see Menu). [photo by Håkon Dagsland]

Admittedly by this time of the long day's events, we were relaxing a bit and enjoying being with our friends.  We were not thinking of photography. [photo by son Patrick]

Consequently, these photos are all courtesy of friends and family who had the presence of mind to take them and then get them to us. [photo by son Rich]

Of course the highlight of the evening was the concert by the popular Norwegian singing star Hanne Krogh. Please visit her official Norwegian web site: www.hannekrogh.com or our unofficial English site for her. [photo by Håkon Dagsland]

Sadly, we had no professional photographer to record this most enjoyable part of the evening. Dim lighting & personal cameras with tiny flashes yielded no good photos. [photo by son Rich]

Even though this picture of Hanne is fuzzy & low quality, those of us who attended will be reminded of her beautiful voice, her apt & inspiring commentary and her genuinely friendly countenance. [photo by Nora Moss]

A surprise addition to Hanne's program was when she invited the 3 Slogvik sisters & friend Liv Naravek, all in their striking Rogaland bunader, up on stage to join her in song. It was a great disappointment to our Norwegian visitors (& the rest of us) when no clear photos were available to document this special & fun moment. [photo by Nora Moss]
