Of course the city of Brest experienced war damage during the takeover by German
in the early stages of WWII, and then the bombing by Allied Forces, however it
seems like the greatest damage to the city came from the shelling and fighting
as US Forces "liberated" the city from German occupation. The caption of
this photo translates to, "Aerial view of part of the city center of Brest, in
September 1944." No wonder that it is difficult to find many old buildings
in current day Brest.
