This rather blurry photo (our shaky hands, not the original) shows the WWII
Allied bombing of the huge German submarine base built at the same location of
the WWI US Naval Air Station.  We learn that after repeated bombing raids,
little damage was inflicted on this very thick reinforced concrete structure.
We further understand that as direct bombing did little to slow this submarine
base's function, bombing expanded to all nearby areas in attempt curtail
infrastructure support of the base.  This meant more and more bombing of
parts of the city of Brest.
