Day 17 - Last day on the Slogvik farm - Walk to Neighbor's - Sun., Dec. 30, 2001

With a degree of sadness, we spend our last full day on the Slogvik farm.  It is a time for some routine farm chores, last minute visiting and some planning for the Slogviks visit to California in the summer of 2002. Of course it was time to pack - to see if all the sweaters and books that we purchased and were given would fit in our luggage. No, it would not all fit and we had to borrow an extra travel bag from Ellen!  We will depart very early the next morning.

We take our last photo of a Slogvik sunrise with Hervik fjord and Borgøy in the background.

Keith tries to capture the so frequently seen window Christmas lights - this one being in Laura's home down the hill.

Peg is busy in the sheep barn helping Rotraud feed silage to the lambs.

Trying to anticipate next
year's Christmas card photo,
we pose in this loved and familiar setting. (Photo & mittens by Rotraud.) [Did you see our
2001 Holiday Card?]

Facing the morning sun, Rotraud, PC and Peg pause here on the new Slogvik deck. For obvious reasons, we spent little time on the deck.

Later that day the clouds became heavier and it began to snow. With PC's guidance, Peg & Keith took a stroll north up the main road to visit neighbors at the very far north tip of the original large Slogvik farm.

We had met Paul & Ellen Ottøy on our previous visit and had attended Ellen's birthday party with multiple spectacular cakes. Sadly they were not home today, but Keith got this photo with more Christmas lights in their upstairs windows.

On the way back, Peg checks out a large rock alongside the road.  Was it put here intentionally in Viking style, or ... ?? One of the small frozen lakes is seen here on the right.

A little further up the road Keith pauses by the signs for the 400 year-old restored Slogvik Kvernhus (or grinding mill). This brings back memories of our visit here in summer 2000 as well as with the NRK TV folks (Day 15).

So many wonderful memories!
