These 2 photos compare our view of the Castle (Le Château) in October 2014 with H.S. Wheeler's picture from the WWI era.  See also his postcard of the Château.  We will spend more time with this historic castle-fortress another day.

   It was only in March of 2014 that Monique and Alain sent us a very touching old photo from the French Cultural Archives with this comment: "We can't help from sending you this beautiful photograph. It could have been your father talking with the lady , near the Castle of Brest. She is wearing the typical Breton clothes and clogs women from the villages around used to wear in those days and until the 80s.  There are more photos on the following link."  We realized that our new French friends brought us to this very place where these old photos were taken.
