11th_Europe_Report -- Women Support the War Effort collage.

A caption to one of the photos below states, "By early September 1914, the shells and powder needs are increasing exponentially; supply could not keep up. The shortage of projectiles and explosives was soon to be felt. The Arsenal of Brest directs its production to the production of war material and especially ammunition, including the famous shell 75." From these photos we see the role many of the Breton women played in the manufacture of munitions, as well as nursing the ill and wounded.
