Mt. Fuji from my hotel room at the New Otani in Tokyo the first morning My view of the New Otani Hotel garden.  This is a large classical Japanese garden and is the site of a 16th century residence belonging to the samurai lord Kiyomasa Kato.

A grand reception was held that evening so that we might meet the FMF Tokyo dignitaries and our hosts. We were in all ways welcomed quite royally.
Another view from the hotel room.  This Tokyo cityscape shows the many high rises that  make it possible to see how 12 million people can be accommodated in 800 square miles.

Kyoko Jones, FMF director, greets us with opening remarks.
This shows the audience during a break between speakers.
  .
The keynote speech on Japanese Education was given by Tsutomu Kimura, President of the National Institution for Academic Degrees and Chairman of the Central Council on Education .
A sunset walk in the hotel garden was relaxing after a full day of meetings.

We were taken in groups to tour some of the major sites in Tokyo.  Here we are entering the Diet Building which is the seat of Japanese government.
These ancient trees add grace and greenery to the metropolitan nature of Tokyo.

In the Asakusa area, the Sensoji Temple is Tokyo's oldest and most popular. It is popularly called the Asakusa Kannon Temple.
At the entrance gates to the Temple we found this huge geta (sandal) which made me think of the Bigfoot legend back home.

Mr. Tsushima, a diet member (House of Representatives) spoke candidly and with a sense of humor about the future of Japan.
If my notes are correct, this is Professor Susumu Ishitani, of  Hosei University.  He spoke on Peace Education.

An introduction to Kabuki music was offered by these musicians as part of our cultural orientation.
This actress demonstrated for us, the art of Kabuki make up and dress.
