462. Capt. Samuel HOWES (589) died on 10 Jan 1723 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA. He was born in Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA. "On 26 Feb 1679-80 Samuel Howes, with the consent of his father Joseph, released the estate from his grandfather's requirement that Thomas(2) should teach him the cooper's trade. ... Hawes, p. 25, says Samuel was married about 1678, noting that the town gave him a house lot containing six acres more or less adjoining his father's land 8 Mar 1677-8. He was in King Philip's war in the 24 June 1675 expedition. His pay amounted to £1 16s. In 1679 he is styled 'sergeant.' By 1712 he was called Captain. He was a surveyor of highways for Yarmouth in 1683 and a representative in the legislature at Boston 1704-5. He died in Yarmouth 10 Jan 1722-3. His wife Rebecca survived him and his will also mentions his daughter Sarah who married Daniel Sears." (Bonnie Hubbard)

He was married to Rebecca HOWES about 1678. [See Notes for Rebecca regarding this marriage of second cousins.]

463. Rebecca HOWES(81) was born in Dec 1657. She died after 10 Jan 1722/23. "Hawes suggests, pp. 18 and 25, that our Samuel's wife Rebecca was his cousin, daughter of Thomas(2). In 1656 Thomas(2) had married Sarah Bangs, daughter of Edward and Lydia Hicks Bangs. Here would be another collapsed pedigree! ... Rebecca was the oldest of their children..." (Bonnie Hubbard)
