924. Joseph** HOWES (740) was born about 1634 in England. He died on 19 Jan 1694/95 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA. IMMIGRANT - NOTE: "COLLAPSED PEDIGREE" - JOSEPH'S BROTHER THOMAS IS THE GRANDFATHER OF REBECCA HOWES WHO MARRIED SAMUEL HOWES. JOSEPH IS THE GRANDFATHER OF SAMUEL. "Like his father he served his community: constable of Yarmouth 1665, selectman, surveyor of highways, grand juror, member of various committees. He is mentioned as a selectman of Yarmouth a number of times. In February 1680 the town chose him, with his son Samuel and brother Jeremiah Howes, "to secure to it all such whales as should be cast up between Sawsuit Harbor mouth and Yarmouth Harbor, for £ a whale." (Hawes, p. 9) He died 19 Jan 1694-5 in that part of Yarmouth which is now Dennis. His wife Elizabeth Mayo and nine children were mentioned in his will. No birth dates or birth order are known, except the order of the sons and the order of the daughters among themselves. Our Samuel was the oldest son." (Bonnie Hubbard)
