Alain and Monique drive us across town and the bridge over the Penfeld towards the area where the US Naval Air Station was located during WWI.  However that area is now located within the restricted boundaries of the huge "Base Navale de Brest" (one of the largest French naval bases).  We can only drive through part of the base on one fenced road where we get glimpses of the base such as this one entrance.  This military complex is also called the "Arsenal de Brest" as described on this French language Wikipedia site.  The much smaller English version Wiki site, while easier to read for us language challenged, does not provide the many images of this historic area.  Both sites provide access to this "Schematic plan of the Arsenal de Brest" which is a map to the wide ranging areas under the French Navy's control.
