Just a little farther downriver from Tour Tanguy, we fortunately find one
of the oldest remaining houses in Brest - "La
maison de la Fontaine" or "The
House of the Fountain". The building on the right here is reportedly
from the 17th or early 18th century. Very few of these old buildings
survived the destruction caused by WWII. The ancient fountain attached to
the house also has a rich history and in more recent times was reconditioned so
that the water again could flow freely from the mouths of the hammered lion head
fountains. The ancient Celtic cross on the corner of the building also
reportedly has a rich history.
