EIGHTH GENERATION

244. Daniel TENNANT (295) (388) was born about 1690 in RI.(388) [One Internet source by Joyce Minton has birth in 1685; one source has birth place as Jamestown, RI, another has Kingstown; Joyce has Kingstown.] He was baptised on 27 Apr 1732 in Groton, New London Co., CT. [baptised as an adult with some of his children according to Groton Church Records R: 27.] He died in Colchester, New London, CT. According to material from the Conn. Hist. Soc., "The name Ten(n)ant is very rare in Connecticut records, and, while there is no proof that this Daniel Tennant is the reputed father of John Tennant, b. Rhode Island, June 1762, who married Elizabeth Loomis in Connecticut in 1788, there is a chance that the families are connected, inasmuch as several of the children of Daniel are found later in Colchester, Conn., where their marriage records are found. Colchester and Salem, Conn. were the homes of this particular Loomis family." He is on record as having purchased with 26 others a tract called Shannon Purchase in Narragansett, RI, and selling land in Westerly, RI, in 1709/10, and owning land in Colchester, CT, in 1740.
He married Ann Green (or Greene), daughter of Benjamin Greene and Humility Coggeshall. He and Ann had several children, one of whom was also named Daniel. Either Daniel, the father, or his son by the same name married Elizabeth Avery, daughter of Jonathan Avery and Elizabeth Bill. It is apparently believed that Elizabeth Avery was the mother of our Caleb Tennant but there apparently there is disagreement as to which David is his father. The position of Sondra Lord and the material she furnished from the Conn. Hist. Soc. support the view that Daniel, the father, married a second time to Elizabeth Avery and it was from this union that our Caleb was born. If in fact Daniel, the son, married Elizabeth and fathered Caleb, another generation would need to be added to this line and the extensive ancestral lineage of both Ann Greene's parents could be included. He was married to Elizabeth AVERY.

245. Elizabeth AVERY(295) was born on 18 Jan 1705 in Groton, New London Co., CT. Children were:
