Leaving Maison Blanche, we drive inland a short distance where Alain and Monique
show us one of the old preserved public laundry areas. This is not the
same one pictured in Harry St.Clare's Photo #091, but we were told that many of
these existed in the time period of WWI but only very few have been preserved.
After this interesting stop, we were invited to end this day's tour with a taste
of French wine at Monique and Alain's comfortable home. We had promised
some Belgian beer, but had foolishly left it at the gite. Their
broad interests and wide collection of relevant resources made for fascinating
conversation in that pleasant setting. Far too soon, it was time to bring the
day to a close, but not before we noticed some rather fine paintings. It
turned out, Alain was an accomplished artist. We agreed to meet the next
morning for more exploration of sites related to Harry St.Clare's photos.
