Johan Magnussen Dies at Age 79
Johan Olaf Magnussen, 79, of Angel Heights Drive, Fortuna, died Sunday morning in a Eureka hospital following an illness of several months.
Born August 22, 1882, in Norway, he came to the United States 54 years ago and has made his home in Humboldt county the past 30 years and in Fortuna the past 20 years. Until his retirement about 20 years ago he had been self employed in ranching. He was a member of the Sons of Norway Lodge of Eureka. He is survived by a brother, Karl Magnussen of Beloit, Wisconsin.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Goble’s Fortuna Mortuary with the Rev. Theodore Mendenhall officiating. Interment followed in Ocean View cemetery in Eureka. Pallbearers were Albert Thomson, Lars Thomson, John Svensen, Norman Tonneson, Thoralf Hansen, Knudt Fidjeland, Dan Vetrhus, Don Fidjeland, Kenneth Hansen and Toralf Lee.
