 1900 US Census:  Age 1; Living in Center, Indiana, in an owned home with his widowed 42 year old mother Adaline and 4 older siblings (Goldie age 10, John age 8, Sylva age 6 and Davis age 4); his mother's occupation was listed as "servant".

Sep 1918 WW I Draft Registration:  Age 20; Birth Date 3 Jul 1898; Address 616 Royal St., Lebanon, Indiana; Occupation "Railroad Operator" for PCC St. L. R.R., Division Headquarters, Logansport, Ind.; Nearest Relative: Alpha Louise Hughes (same Lebanon address); Physical Description: Short, Medium Build, Gray Eyes, Brown Hair.

 1920 US Census:  Age 21; Married; Living in a rented home with 18 year old wife Alpha L and their 1 month old son James H. at 423 North Clark St., Lebanon, Indiana; Occupation listed as "Clerk, Freight House"; both parents for both Harley & his wife were born in Indiana.

 1930 US Census:  Age 32; Married; Living in Shelbyville, Indiana, in a rented home with 30 year old wife Louise and their 4 children (James age 11, Adaline age 9, Dorena age 6 and Bettie age 4; also living in household was his 60 year old father-in-law George Bowers; Harley's Occupation was listed as "Salesman, Insurance"; Veteran = No.

 1940 US Census:  Age 42; Married; Living in Denver, Colorado, in a rented home with 38 year old wife Alpha L. and their 2 daughters (Dona Mae age 15 & Betty Lou age 14); Harley's Occupation listed as "Truck Driver, Building Const."

1949 Eureka City Directory: Listed as "Equipment Operator SDH" living with his wife Marie T. at 738 Huntoon St., Eureka, Humboldt Co.

1952 Oct Humboldt Standard article:  Harley Hughes is mentioned as the presiding Fram 13 President at a meeting honoring former presidents of the lodge.

1956 Humboldt Standard articles:  June 20, Front Page Headline “Sons of Norway Open Convention” with article about the opening of the 4-day State Convention with accompanying front page photo of the 12 members of the State Board of Directors with Harley Hughes being the only one from Eureka.  June 25: Harley Hughes is mentioned as one of the three general directors for Sons of Norway District 6, the other 2 “both from the southern part of the state.

1958 Eureka City Directory: Listed as "Driver, City Street Dept" living with wife Marie T. at 2605 Spring St., Eureka.

1962 Mar Humboldt Standard article:  Harley Hughes is mentioned as the “President of the Scandinavian festival association.”

Obituary:  “Funerals” listing in The Humboldt Times, Saturday, Nov. 2, 1963, p. 11, col. 5:

HUGHES, HARLEY H.  –  Oct. 31, 1963, 2605 Spring Street, Eureka.  Husband of Mrs. Marie T. Hughes of Eureka.  Father of James H. Hughes of Upton, Wyo., Mrs. Calvin Johnson of Morrison, Colo., Mrs. John Woodif of Byers, Colo., Mrs. Otto Englebrecht of Strausburg, Colo.  Step-father of George C. Dysert of Eureka.  Brother of John Hughes of San Jose, Mrs. Sherman Hughes of Lebanon, Ind., Mrs. Cecil Stevens of Crawfordsville, Ind., Mrs. Goldie Gugolz(?) of Lafayette, Ind.  He is also survived by several nephews and nieces, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.  Hughes had been an employee of the Eureka City Street Department for the last 10 years.  He was a member and past president of the Sons of Norway Lodge of Eureka.  A native of Swanington, Ind.  Age 65.  Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1963, at Sanders Funeral Home, 1:30 p.m. with Rev. James M. Brown officiating.  Interment will follow at Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka.
