Close to the road on the west side of the plot are these more recent graves.
On the left with the veteran's flag flying is the 2002 grave of Sons of Norway
member and beloved Norwegian language class teacher Erling Daastol who was born
in Norway. Next to his grave (on the right) is the 2003 grave of Fred
Elliott whose wife had recently added colorful flowers to the previously placed
yellow lilies. In addition to being a long-time member of the Sons of
Norway Lodge, Fred was also very active with the local Danish Lodge, as well as
a key player in past Scandinavian Festivals held in Ferndale.
