Pre Dedication Photo Album - Vol. 2
While still busy hosting our wonderful Norwegian guests, we quickly throw together this photo album of just a few photos taken as our guests arrive & enjoy the San Francisco Bay Area in the days leading up to the Slooper bautastein dedication. We soon hope to upload some photos from that memorable day, as well as photos of our guests touring around northern California.
The main group of Norwegian guests start arriving on May 12th. Here Gunleif & Kate Seldal are given a warm greeting by Peg at SFO. | Friends Sjur & Berit Slogvik arrive pushing their luggage. | A large group from Tysvær arrive, (L to R): Rotraud Slogvik, Steinar Romsaland, Einar Slogvik, reflection off glasses of Steinar's wife Reidun covers her lovely smile with a white halo, Liv Narevik is behind, Ingvar Frøyland, Signy & John Hettervik. | Arriving late are Einar's 3 sisters, Norfrid Dagsland, Jorunn Rasmussen, Helga Halleland, then Peg, Norfrid's husband Håkon, & Ivar Lygren. |
Some of the guests gather outside the borrowed house in the far west of the city on May 13th. | Inside the house Liv, Berit & Sjur prepare for a California/Norwegian breakfast. | Most of the group staying at the "D house" pose. On far right is Wilma Aubry from Florida & Sonia from Norway. | Another group photo outside the Seal Rock Inn with the Pacific in the background. They will soon tour the City. |
One stop is an outside look at the famous Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park. | The group poses before a tour of San Francisco Bay. | This view of the Bay cruise shows the prominent Alcatraz Island in the background. | Some members pose at a monument with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. |
All enjoyed the view of the City by the Bay from Twin Peaks view point. | An special evening meal is enjoyed in China Town. | Signy & John Hettervik look over the table heaped with delicious food. | While Rotraud grins in the background, the "birthday boy" Sjur Slogvik show off his new suit of clothes given to him by cousin Einar! |
Back at the "D hus" Peg receives lovely gifts from Signy while others look on. | Peg & Einar hold two very special original works of art that were presented to Keith & Peg by the Slogviks. | "Emigrant" Einar commissioned this work which beautifully shows how the Slogvik farm probably looked at the time Jakob emigrated (1825). | Cousin Gunleif presented this fine print which shows how the city of Stavanger looked in years past. |
On the morning of the 14th, the Rogaland "co-stars" join with the lovely Hanne Krogh for breakfast at the Seal Rock Inn. | A group photo in front of the D-hus with the artist's study stone - and then off for a tour of the Muir woods & Sausalito before moving to Napa for 2 days. | The Roney family from Butte County hosts the Norwegians at the historic Soscol House which is now the Villa Romano. | Two serious researchers, Gunleif Seldal from Norway and Blaine Hedberg from Wisconsin (Norwegian American Genealogical Center & Naeseth Library) enjoy the evening at the Soscol House. |
