In order to cure him, his mother sat him down in the middle of the floor with a bowl of brown sugar hoping he would get sick of it and lose his desire. This didn't work. He had diabetes and died of kidney failure at 45. His grandson Richard remembers Sunday afternoon visits with these grandparents in Fremont. He recalls the old crystal radio with earphones. Returning home to Omaha, he gave Bob a dime and Richard a nickel to buy an ice cream cone on the way home. Bob was upset because his coin was smaller.
