THIRD GENERATION

6. Frank Thomas WALKER (2) was born in 1886 in Lapel or Anderson, IN ?. He died in 1926 or 1927 in Denver, CO. He was buried in Lapel, IN. He worked as a freight claims agent (1910) for Union Pacific Railroad at Omaha, NE, and Denver, CO. He had a brother, John, who lived in Tipton, Indiana. The family home had been in Lapel, Indiana. He was tall and very handsome and well-liked. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. He became a 32nd degree Mason 29 May 1920 (in those days you were required to go to Europe to go further in the Masonic organization). He convinced Lucy to adopt a child. They got Arlene at birth. This was kept secret from Arlene until she was nearly fifty. The story told to Arlene by Lucy's sister, Mary, after Lucy's death was that Lucy had not wanted a child for fear of being left to raise it on her own. Frank died of pneumonia and intestinal flu when Arlene was 3 and a half years old. Arlene remembers details of the burial and the fumigating of the room afterward.
He was married to Lucy Elizabeth DEPUTY on 19 Aug 1921 in Osceola, NE (?).

7. Lucy Elizabeth DEPUTY (2) was born on 20 Sep 1888 in Bennett, Lancaster Co., NE. She died on 22 Mar 1962 in Chico, Butte Co., CA. She was buried on 26 Mar 1962 in Rose Hills Cemetery, Whittier, CA. "Adopted mother of Arlene Margaret Walker." Worked as an elevator operator at the Union Pacific Railroad Headquarters (1910-1920). There she met Frank Walker. She was one of five children, her siblings being Mary, Oscar, Raymond, and David. She had left home in her teens and worked in San Francisco cooking for a wealthy family. 10 years after Frank's death, Lucy married Roland Bartlett in 1937 who died in 1950; Lucy had a rooming house. Lucy then moved to Long Beach and invested in small rental property. When Arlene and Dick moved to Chico, she did so as well, living independently until dying of a heart attack with pneumonia complications in 1962. After Lucy died, her sister, Mary, reported Lucy had had twin girls and possibly another child she gave up for adoption. It was assumed she was married. Mary may or may not have been a reliable reporter as she is said to have had considerable jealousy toward her sister. Some family material suggests that Lucy was married once or twice before she married Frank.
