in Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA. IMMIGRANT - Hugh Mosher of Newport and Portsmouth,
RI, and Dartmouth, MA has the following data from Austin's Genealogical Dictionary
of Rhode Island: He was born in 1633. "1660 Jan. 29 He and five others
of Newport, bought certain land at Misquamicut (Westerly), of the Indian sachem
Socho, which had been given the latter by Canonicus and Miantonomi, for driving
off the Pequots in 1637.... 1663 He called himself about thirty years old, in
testimony given this year. 1664 Freeman. 1668 Jul. 8 Portsmouth. He having
purchased of Thomas Lawton part of his farm near Hunting Swamp, he obliges himself
and heirs to maintain a good fence in the line between himself and Thomas Lawton.
1676 Aug. 24 He was a member of the Court Martial, held at Newport for the
trial of certain Indians charged with being engaged in King Philip's designs.
Several of them were sentenced to be executed... 1684 Dartmouth Ordained
as pastor of the First Baptist Church at its organization. (This church soon
embraced people living in Dartmouth, Tiverton and Little Compton.)... 1709
Oct. 12 Will--proved 1713, Dec. 7...(He calls himself of Newport at the time
of making his will, but before his death had removed to Dartmouth.) He was
a blacksmith. ... Hugh Mosher's son John married Experience Kirby, sister of
Rebecca's husband John Kirby, so they were all doubly aunts and uncles! Rebecca
