Day 3, part 2 - Oman Musandam Fjord Tour - November 2005

One part Norway, one part Grand Canyon, one part Coral Reef.  What a combination!!  These are photos taken on the 2nd part of our dhow cruise as we head out of the Khor Ash Sham fjord - play more with the dolphins - and end this trip back at the dock at Khasab.

1

Here you see some of the grandeur of the geological formation of Khor Sham.
2

Subtle coloring changes enhance the dramatic scenery.
3

One of the dhows heads in towards a village.
4

We pull closer to the small village of Sham on the north side of this fjord. We try not to disturb their peace.
5

Taken from a distance, we see steep, angular shadowed peaks against a clear sky.
6

Grand Canyon like strata uplifted offers a clue to the ancient formation of this rugged landscape.
7

Could this be the Prekestolen (Pulpit Rock) of Oman? (famous Norwegian rock formation)
8

A young visitor tries his hand at the tiller with the assistant dhow captain observing.
9

A cross-section of nationalities are represented by our fellow passengers - European, Pakistani, Arab and Us.
10

Leaving the fjord, we encounter another friendly local dolphin pod, who choose to play with us.
11

Delighted passengers applaud, whistle - take photos of these special residents - the dhow tips to starboard.
12

Look closely, there is a pair of playful dolphins there.
13

Perhaps you can see at least one surfacing here at the rear of the neighboring dhow.
14

Returning to port after a fulfilling and rewarding experience.  Kudos for Khasab Tours.
15

Docking to rejoin our driver for the return drive to the big city -- a world away.
