Album 9- Cofradia de Suchitlán to Michoacan Beaches

January 1-5, 2006 - New Year's Day in the village was filled with activities, noise and a parade.  We would leave the next day, Jan. 2nd, borrowing a van and heading to the beaches in the state of Michoacan.  We end this album with our stay in the beach town of Playa Azul.  Next, on Jan 6th, we would head inland and up into the mountains.

CAPTIONS TO BE FINISHED LATER

1

On New Year's Day we hear a band playing and come out to find a special parade taking place through the village.
2

Right after the pickup-float comes the marching drummers ...
3

... followed a little later by the rest of the town band.
4

The procession continues on down the street - past Ted & Susan's house - & then will probably loop around the village.
5

This young cabellero was not part of the parade but added local color to the New Year's Day.
6

A gorgeous Cofradia sunset brings the first day of the new year to an end.
7

At the Hacienda the next morning, Peg gets this group photo as we prepare for more traveling [L-R: Jack Rogers, Ted Rose, Susan Rogers, Keith, Susan Hill, Project's Director of Children's Services Jorge Torres, Volunteer Jack Grimes, Lois (Ted's cousin) & Lois' husband Mike].
8

Soon Jack, Susan, Peg & Keith are off in the borrowed van heading towards the Pacific coast through these Colima banana plantations.
9

That afternoon we came to the little Michoacan beach community of Brisas were we had this less than great coconut drink (& later a decent lunch) at a beach restaurant near out hotel.
10

Hotel Paraisolas, Brisas, Michoacan where we stayed the first night after arriving on the coast.
11

An evening beach stroll among the day's beach umbrellas which are closed for the night.
12

A very nice sunset over the Pacific -- the fantasy images are true
13

We planned to head south that day, but made sure not to miss the opportunity to swim even if it is before the sun is fully up.
14

The highway south, followed the beach with frequent view points.
15

Also frequent were nice little beaches with palapas and other developments for beachgoers.
16

These little burros caught our attention at one of the beaches.
17

Another great panoramic of the Michoacan coastline.
18

Hotel Playa Azul where we stayed the next few nights.
19

The second day, we backtracked to Lupita's just up the beach from Las Peñas where we were the only occupied palapa on the beach all day.
20

We swam several times just because we could.  To have warm ocean temperatures were a real treat for these Humboldt county folks.
21

The surf was a little rough, but great fun.
22

Between swims, there was shade at the palapa and genuine relaxation.
23

Lupita's finest food!
24

Coffee "robusto" at Hotel Playa Azul (always trying to get a stronger cup of coffee - but usually using the wrong word).
25

At a nearby stand we enjoy a "Bomba" liquado breakfast! (several fruits & granola blended together in a healthy refreshing drink)
26

On the second day, we take a walk around the town of Playa Azul.
27

While enjoying beers and peanuts (cervesa y cacahuates) we watched the activities on the beach at Playa Azul.
