From the Fram Clipper, Aug.-Sep.-Oct. 2003:

"On July 18-19 2003, members and friends of the Sons of Norway Fram 13 participated as a relay team for the annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life, held at College of the Redwoods.  The 14 individuals on our team took "shifts" walking the track at the college with 400 other relay teams from Humboldt County, for the 24 hour period.  Prior to the actual relay, each member, along with the other members of our Sons of Norway lodge and our language class, sold opportunity raffle tickets for a Dale Norwegian sweater, and collected donations from friends, family, and community members to contribute toward our fundraising efforts. ... As a group, this team walked 62 ½ miles over the 24 hour period.  Participating in this event was inspirational and meaningful to us all.  In addition to our own personal reasons for participating, our lodge members took part in this event in honor and memory of recently lost lodge members, Erling Daastol and Joanne Halsbo Walsh.  Just prior to the end of the Relay event, a drawing was held for the Dale sweater, which was won by Bea Renner of Loleta, CA.  Team members decided unanimously to make this event an annual activity of our lodge."
