This agrees with Bonnie Hubbard's data and also the data of Tim Cushman. Smith's Claghorn Study has 16 Sep 1696.] He died on 14 Jan 1754 in Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard, MA.⁽³⁸³⁾⁽¹⁹²⁾⁽⁸¹⁾ [Judy Goldbaum's data gives death place as Barnstable, MA; Smith has Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard.] Bonnie Hubbard has first name spelled "Shubael" and reports that C.E. Banks said that Shubal was a "mariner."
"Shubael(II) was a soldier in the Louisburg Expedition in 1745, a 'Captain in Lumbard's Co., Seventh Mass. Col. Shubael Gorham,' according to Mr. Claghorn. The New England colonists had been growing more and more worried about the huge French fortifications being built at Louisburg and thought they would be much safer if the British controlled the whole coast. Therefore they raised a force of farmers, fishermen, craftsmen and laborers
and set off for what is now Nova Scotia. They were joined by some British ships. After a siege of 49 days the great fortress surrendered, only to be returned to France under the Treaty of Aix-la-Chappelle in 1748. Then followed the establishment of Halifax (1749), the expulsion of the Acadians (1755) and the recapture and destruction of Louisburg (1758). At some time, whether before or after his marriage I don't know, Shubael moved from Barnstable to Chilmark." (Bonnie Hubbard)

Experience HAWES ⁽³⁸³⁾⁽¹⁹²⁾⁽⁸¹⁾⁽¹⁹⁴⁾⁽¹⁹³⁾ was born on 14 Nov 1706 in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, Dukes Co., MA.⁽³⁸³⁾ She died on 19 Sep 1778.⁽³⁸³⁾ Claghorn study appears to spell Experience's last name as "Hames." Judy Goldbaum's data has her last name as "Hawes," as does the data of Bonnie Hubbard & Tim Cushman. The last name spelled as Hawkes also appears in some family material. Children were:

iii. Experience CLAGHORN⁽¹⁹⁴⁾⁽¹⁹³⁾ was born in 1730 in Martha's Vineyard, Dukes Co., MA. Married Elihu Sherman. (Was this the same Elihu that was also married to Experience's sister Elizabeth?)
iv. Hawes CLAGHORN⁽¹⁹⁴⁾⁽¹⁹³⁾ was born in 1730 in Martha's Vineyard, Dukes Co., MA.⁽¹⁹³⁾ [Cushman Family Group Sheets have birth in 1733.]
v. Benjamin CLAGHORN⁽¹⁹⁴⁾⁽¹⁹³⁾ was born in 1736 in Martha's Vineyard, Dukes Co., MA.
vi. Dorcas CLAGHORN⁽¹⁹⁴⁾⁽¹⁹³⁾ was born in 1740 in Martha's Vineyard, Dukes Co., MA. Married Shubael Pease 5 Nov 1761 at Chilmark, MA. Shubael was born in 1742 at Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard, MA.
vii. Timothy CLAGHORN⁽¹⁹⁴⁾⁽¹⁹³⁾ was born in 1743 in Martha's Vineyard, Dukes Co., MA.
viii. Elizabeth CLAGHORN⁽¹⁹⁴⁾⁽¹⁹³⁾ was born on 1 Aug 1746 in Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard, MA. Married Elihu Sherman 28 Oct 1766. (Was this the same Elihu that also married Elizabeth's sister Experience?)

x. James CLAGHORN⁽¹⁹⁴⁾⁽¹⁹³⁾ was born on 25 Jun 1751 in Martha's Vineyard, Dukes Co., MA. He died on 1 Aug 1810 in Cummington, MA. Married Salome Cottle 17 Feb 1774 at Chilmark, MA; married Mary Wilde 9 Mar 1788; married Asenath (Strong) (Mrs.) Miller 8 Jun 1796.
The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Vol. 61, p. 279, indicates that James "was a private in a company commanded by Capt. Job Crocker of Eastham, Col. Nathan Sparhawk's regiment, 1777, service in Rhode Island and sundry places in Massachusetts."
