SECOND PORT OF CALL - STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN

We believe all of these photos were taken during the few days the cruise put in to the Swedish capitol of Stockholm.  Apologies are given for the poor quality of the photos and for the lack of certainty in identifying most of these pictures.  If you can provide any corrections or additional identifying information, please contact Keith.

1

Photo taken from the bridge of the USS Damato, one of 4 Navy destroyers tied up to the dock here. Location? Probably Stockholm?
2

Also taken from rear outboard ship of 4 tied up here.
3

Part of our group, the heavy cruiser USS Albany (CA-123) sits at anchor out in the harbor.
4

Another view of the Albany at anchor - flag of smaller ship right foreground cannot be remembered for sure but believed to be Russian?
5

A view of the Stockholm harbor area.
6

A sleek 3 masted sailing ship sits across the bay.
7

The cruiser's launch brings sailors back to their ship as dusk nears.
8

Stockholm street scene. (Could this have been the area where Keith bought his first 35mm camera?)
9

When the ship held an "open house" pretty Swedish girls were heartily welcomed.
10

A beautiful old wooden building in Stockholm (identified as the Biological Museum at Djurgården, Skansen (Zoo) by Jan Andersson, now living in Ban Pong, Thailand).
11

A more modern building near the water's edge.
12

A view of Stockholm - the famous City Hall can be seen in the center of this photo.
13

The prominent tower of the City Hall or Stadshuset.
14

The City Hall in Stockholm is where Nobel Prizes are awarded.
15

Inside is the "Golden Hall" banquet room where we were invited to a luncheon (Keith sitting 7 o'clock 2nd round table foreground).*

* This black & white photo was scanned from a glossy 8x10" commercial picture taken of our group.  The one  color slide that Keith took at the luncheon did not turn out very well, but can be seen by CLICKING HERE.  Notice the beautiful color of the gold mosaic.  A scanned image of an old Swedish postcard  can be seen by CLICKING HERE.  The English caption of the reverse side of this card reads, "City  Hall, Stockholm. Banquet room 'Golden Hall' with mosaik [sic] decorations by Einar Forseth." [In Swedish: STADSHUSET, STOCKHOLM. GYLLENE SALEN MED MOSAIKER AV EINAR FORSETH.]
